Got a third-generation iPod nano? Looking for a new set of earbuds, preferably with noise-canceling abilities? Looking for something to block out the sound of jet engines, barking dogs, coworkers and your boss? If so, look no further than Radius' new set, which plug right into the dock in order to extract all the juice they need to block out extraneous clamor. The radStrap canalphones are expected to ship in black, green and silver, and feature a neck strap, on / off switch for the noise-cancellation, an aluminum housing and frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz. Check 'em out next month for ¥8,980 ($82), but don't get your hopes up for a bonafide US release.

Using Japanese origami, Kyushu-based artist Takayuki Senzaki creates beautiful decor, like playing with shadows and creating cute plant patterns with traditional paper with designs that change when it is folded. During this year’s DesignTide, his colourful origami-style chandeliers as part of his ORIKAMI exhibition filled the walls with mysterious shadows creating a magical atmosphere. Now scientists are testing whether the stuff that makes the sauces so savage can tame the pain of surgery. Doctors are dripping capsaicin, the chemical that gives chili peppers their fire, directly into open wounds during some highly painful operations. These experiments use an ultra-purified version of capsaicin to avoid infection -- and the volunteers are under anesthesia so they don't scream at the initial burn.

The annual Illegal Soap Box Derby 2007 takes place this Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! October 28th at 1pm on Bernal Heights Hill in San Francisco, where for over a decade daredevil racers have competed in makeshift vehicles. Finally. Someone put a flashlight into a razor blade. I can die happy. And fully lit. But seriously, I’ve wanted this for years. Being able to see WTF you’re doing while shaving in a poorly-lit room (or outside or in the dark in Yosemite) is tres awesome.

In February, Apple will release a native SDK for the iPhone. Apps will need to be signed (ugh), but at least this lays the groundwork for real 3rd party development on the iPhone/iPod Touch platform. And by development, I mean games.
