I had a similar experience with a can of green beans and a knife...the knife won. I have a pretty reminder of this on my palm. Glad to hear your thumb is a-okay!

Glad to hear you're back!

I had a similar bagle-knife-digit incident where I sliced the pad of a finger off* the morning of what was planned to be a big climbing day. I bandaged up and headed out...but after one route realized that using that hand was out, and bleeding on the wall rather uncool. So sad.

* Turns out they grow back...who knew?

I taped up my thumb, but didn’t really use it today. I was flailing on a 5.9/5.10 equivalent.

Also, I just shocked myself unplugging a dangerous combination of international adapters to charge my camera. On that thumb. It gets no love, clearly.

Yikes. Perhaps it's time to amputate. Opposable thumbs are so overrated.

How did the gym compare to US gyms?

Was good. The whole floor wasn’t padded, in particular underneath the wildly-overhanging lead routes. There were multiple levels, and a crash pad on a 45-degree angle on a long bouldering route. That was pretty sweet—you could climb sans-sope for much further.

Some pics can be viewed on my Flickr.
Also, are we still on for Parkour classes this year?

Yes! The next session start in March (I think). I'm also looking into Adventure Racing classes for later in the year which feels like a good follow on. I figure its like Parkour, but with the chance a bear will eat you.

When are you back?

March? I’m in. Provided it’s okay I miss a class or two for SXSW. I’ll be back next week, yo!
With a bread knife? You need to cut down on the caffeine, dude.
This knife, to be specific. The 9 3/4 one.
Perhaps this is a good thing--you've been a bit all thumbs in the past...

Glad you got some climbing in! Lex climbed an 11b the other day. I hate her.
Seriously. If you bring the clamps, I’ll bring the blowtorch.

Looking forward to being tied up with you kids again!
Ouch! Did you read the operator's instructions found on the Cutco website prior to using the bread cutting instrument? I bet you didn't "grasp the handle of the Slicer between your thumb and forefinger".

Nice climbing gym. How high are the climbs and did you lead sans-thumb?
Not leading at the gym. Only led outside—and it kicked my arse. Or flexors, really. My arms have been sore for the past 3 days!
I was never someone who gave much thought of my hands, but a few years ago I suffered from trigger digit finger. It was possibly the most painful and annoying experience of my life. Everyday that passes I am truly grateful for all my fingers/hands/ an all other parts of my body that never seemed to matter in the past.

Glad to hear you are better.
This sounds like a really frightrning experience, i'm glad it all ended up well. Hope you've enjoyed your climbing!
