James Bond, Referee
Having watched the excellent trailer for the upcoming second remake of the first James Bond film, I noticed this post elsewhere on Vox using strong language to refer to the referee who set a World Cup record of red and yellow cards doled out in a single game.
Anyway, these blokes look alike. Since I didn't do much in the way of answering yesterday's QOTD, I present for your viewing pleasure:
Edit: Added link to first version of Casino Royale, the made-for-TV movie (not the Peter Sellers spoof).

i'll be damned - that movie looks pretty good.
The first James Bond film?
IIRC, Dr. No is the first James Bond movie. Casino Royale is a prequel dealing with a younger James Bond at MI6, based on the first James Bond book. It's not a remake.
Anyway, something else they have in common, I guess they're both trigger happy.
Casino Royale was the first depiction of James Bond on film. There was a television movie in 1954 that predates Dr. No by eight years. Somehow the Cubby Broccoli production team was able to revise history to the degree that most people have the mistaken impression that Dr. No came first.
Ah, I only knew about the 1967 spoof version. Interesting to see that Peter Lorre played the villain in 1954. Also, I don't know how much revisionism the Broccoli production team needed to do. After all, Dr. No was a big screen release which introduced Sean Connery in his signature role. How many people could name all the various versions of The Maltese Falcon that have been filmed?
broccoli was "influential" enough that the version of casino royale - which was not produced by him - that ydnar linked to is generally not considered an "official" bond film.
I'm aware of the brattiness of Broccoli et al with regard to the Bond franchise. (cf Never Say Never Again as "unofficial" Bond film.) But is their involvement necessary to explain the obscurity of the earlier Bond appearance? A parallel example: until today I had no idea that there was an adaptation of The Long Goodbye that predated Altman's. Funny coincidence that it was the first episode of Climax!, the same show that Casino Royale appeared on.
