OMG, there's actually a cool movie playing on a night when I can go see a movie! I can't believe it! Somebody shoot me! I am so there! 8:30! The Metreon, fifteen goddamn minutes away by foot! Vox saves the day!
I must have watched the opening sequence a thousand times. It was rather good at flushing out memory leaks in your code. In the end we had to render the ship vertically which seemed to stop RenderMan running out of memory.
Was it because of the model of the ship, where the complexity is around that central axis? I can imagine if RenderMan is scanline based then the scanlines around the major axis of the ship would touch almost the entire model.
Umm, duh. Just move to Venus or Mercury people. Sure, it's not a long term solution, but in this case, long term is still a few thousand years of burning embers.
