Just to +1 .tiff’s earlier post on what is possibly my favorite social media site of 2007. I have the FFFFOUND screensaver on my living room computer, and I could just sit on my sofa and watch it all day.

I believe what makes FFFFOUND so compelling is its simplicity. As a user, you can do precisely one thing: favorite images. There’s no tagging, no friending, no privacy, no sorting, no collections, nothing. The social graph of followers/following is built out of the implicit links between users who favorite each others’ images.

Scratch that. I know what makes FFFFOUND so awesome is its simplicity. It’s a scalpel in a universe of swiss-army chainsaws and it looks good all the time, a candy store for visual inspiration.

Best when paired with cold Japanese beer and Digitalism.

I unexpectedly became inspired by this episode of XKCD (spoiler) and the First Goatse group to throw together a little Mac app that reveals the goatse.cx hello.jpg in all its goriness (thank goodness for low resolution cameras back then!), whilst simultaneously snapping some shots with the built-in iSight. This is the final screen in the app, in which I’m simulating surprise. I swear editing the screen with hello.jpg was not an experience I intend to repeat anytime soon.

Imagine the power requirements for operating that hand. Now multiply them by... let's say 20 and I think you get a clue about the total power consumption of the whole robot. Will it be able to do 5 steps without refueling? And another thing.. It may be strong, but I really doubt that it will be fast. So for all you doomsday prophets, I think this will not be the end. Not just yet...
